課程概述	待補這門課將嘗試去建立一個處理現代國家發展的人類學觀點，從歷史的角度開始，先去理解國家的面貌與性質，在過去為何？現在的狀況與未來的可能。並進一步討論，是哪些制度上與文化上的形式與力量，造成我們當代對民族國家性質的質疑。
課程目標	這門課的另外一個關懷，是如何建立一種研究方法與理論取向，來展現人類學對現代國家研究的特殊貢獻。這個觀點要建立在對國家概念的重新檢討，日常生活實踐的具體觀察，象徵與意義體系的理解，以及對持續存在的結構與新興文化形式的辨認與評估。
課程要求	這是一門以閱讀討論為主的專題課，修課同學需要閱讀當週的材料，前兩堂由同學輪流摘要報告，並帶領課堂討論。第三堂由我講課並總結。每堂課上課前，請先繳交閱讀材料之摘要2-3頁。摘要後，歡迎同學以他有興趣的領域或區域的材料為基礎，提供比較或批評的意見。期末請繳交期末報告一篇，題目可以是理論整理，個案分析或比較。必須在15頁以上(不包含書目)。請在第13週或之前，與我先討論報告題目。我不接受沒有事先確認可行的期末報告。學期評分：上課討論20%，摘要20%，期末報告60%。
